We have an agreement with our visitors to list only the best job sites that we can find.

Here, you will find no "work at home and make millions" scams; we carefully screen the sites that appear here, and revisit all of them on a regular basis to ensure that our recommendation is not misplaced.

We are attempting to bring only the best advice and resources to your attention. You may find longer lists of job sites, but you won't find a better selection of job sites or sounder, more sensible advice and guidance.

Company "Alumni" Networks

The former employees of many companies continue to stay in touch with each other through company "alumni" organizations. They have worked with each other, and know each other pretty well. That's a real advantage, and it can be very powerful networking.

These group are excellent resources for job seekers in two major ways:

A great source of job leads.

Connect with a former co-worker who now works for a different employer (one that may need someone like you). Most employers prefer a job candidate who has been referred by an employee - the new employee is a known quantity to someone who also knows the organization and presumably can successfully predict who will fit in with the company culture. With luck, the job won't even be posted, and you will be hired very quickly. This happens much more often than you might think!

An excellent source of "inside" information on potential employers.

If you see an ad for a job in a specific company, you can ask the people in your alumni group for information about the employer to determine whether or not the company would be a good fit for you, the process for filling jobs, maybe even about the pay scale and benefits. Hopefully, someone in the group actually works for that employer and can provide you with an introduction.

Company alumni groups seem to fall into a couple of major categories. Independent groups pulled together by volunteers who create a Web site or a mailing list (like a Yahoo! Group), and those actually sponsored by the former employer.

This list is short, now, but it will grow over time. If you don't find one of your former employers in the list, don't give up - call that former boss or co-worker to see what they are doing, and where they are working. Maybe you can help them, and maybe they can help you. Call it "staying in touch" if you think that "networking" is a dirty word. It's a good habit, and also good for your career.
